HOT SPRING

Sedge tussock hot spring

Our large communal baths use only water that has seeped through strata
of aeons-old plant material.
In addition to a sauna and three indoor baths offering different temperatures,
there is an open-air bath facing the lake,
with backrests modeled after sedge tussocks.
Drop in for a quick dip or stay overnight for a relaxing bath.
The salty water will keep you extra warm and relieve stiffness and chills.

Open-air bath

From the open-air bath, where you can lean against backrests modeled after sedge tussocks, you can glimpse Lake Shirarutoro between the trees while enjoying the chirps of wild birds and insects. If you’re lucky, you might even be treated to the sight of a red-crowned crane or Ezo shika deer.

Indoor baths

The large communal bathroom contains a variety of baths retained from before the renovation. One features hot water at an ideal temperature for semi-submergence, while another is deep enough to allow you to soak up to your shoulders in hotter water, and yet another, a large rock bath lined in its recesses with rocks to lean back on.

Sauna

Surrounded by lakes and forests, and cool year-round, Kushiro Shitsugen’s climate is similar to that of Finland, the birthplace of the sauna. After working up a good sweat in the sauna you can enjoy a dip in the cold bath, or sit on an outdoor bench to catch the breezes sweeping across the lake.
